I am a Creative Researcher.

Everything I do is a fusion of the arts and social sciences. I use art to inspire social change, communicate new ideas, and connect communities. I study communities and their ideas to create art.

My production company, DreamQuilt LLC, is based on this idea of socially conscious and applied artistic and cultural expression. Its primary project ARTifacts offers an incredible range of performing, visual, and alternative arts, and has been honored and recognized by local government and non-profit organizations.

My goal is to bring the world not only enjoyment but social awareness and intellectually engaging content. I enjoy the artistic process, collaborating with people who share my love of the visual media, and creating artifacts of beauty.

I am a Visual Anthropologist

I earned an MA in Cultural Anthropology and Film Studies at the University of Florida. My path was applied visual anthropology—incorporating film & media studies, entrepreneurship, and the anthropology of law and social change.

Prior to this, I studied Anthropology and Theatre Arts at Valdosta State University and realized the connections among the study of human culture and the study of theatre history.

What is visual anthropology?

Anthropology is often confused with archaeology, the study of ancient cultures through artifacts. However, cultural anthropology often involves artifacts as well, in certain theoretical orientations and in specific subfields such as visual anthropology. The new artifacts through which the interactions and construction of government, commerce, leisure activities, and sexuality are in ever-evolving forms of media in intertextual, largely visual form. Filmmaking, applied theatre, and anthropology are merging.

I am a Playwright and Documentary Filmmaker

A large part of visual anthropology is using the process of documentary filmmaking as a way to study culture…especially difficult social issues. Another part of it is anthropological or socially conscious writing for the stage and screen.

I am a Social Entrepreneur and Applied Artist

I have a decade of experience in theatre production, including directing, stage management, and production design.

My other enterprises include dance, puppetry, and interactive art experiences. I have led workshops, classes, and collaborative artistic experiences in three states, at arts festivals, independent theatre companies, civic centers, and rehabilitation centers.

Finally, I produce immersive educational opportunities for my community, using art exhibitions, performing arts, and audiovisual media. I’m developing altruistic programs based on artistic engagement, through my production agency DreamQuilt.
